Today’s tip is something I stumbled across accidentally this week. The battery on my phone seems to not hold a charge as well as it used to and I find myself needing to charge it at work occasionally. This generally means plugging it into a cable connected to my computer and setting it on top of my desk.
After a few minutes of glancing over every time a flash of light hit the screen, I realized it was way too distracting. I decided to set it under the surface of my desk on top of my computer.
This made a huge difference because now it was out of my line of sight. There was no need to glance at it to check for text messages. I was no longer falsely reacting to my phone and I was able to focus.
Out of sight, out of mind is a powerful way to reshape many of your habits. You’re far less likely to eat candy if you don’t keep a bowl of it out on your desk. If the habits you have now aren’t getting you closer to your goal, try something new. Mix up your routine. You never know what you’ll discover.
